Chairul Tanjung is the founder and Chairman of Para Group, Indonesia’s leading consumer-focused conglomerate. Described by Forbes as one of Indonesia’s rising stars, Mr. Tanjung received the Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 Award at the prestigious Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards ceremony organized by Enterprise Asia. Para Group has interests in three core industry sectors: Financial Services, Media, Entertainment, and Lifestyle, and Natural Resources.
Para Group includes Bank Mega, the leading private non-government bank controlled by Indonesian shareholders, and Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia, a top player in the syariah sector. Other financial services companies include Para Finance (Multifinance), Mega Life (ranked Best Insurance Company for 2007-2009 with assets between IDR 1.5-5 trillion by Investor Magazine), Mega Insurance, and Mega Capital.
Under Mr. Tanjung’s leadership, Para Group has become a major player in media, lifestyle and entertainment.
Looking to the future, Mr. Tanjung envisions Para Group ventures in the natural resources sector. To this end, Para Group has started greenfield CPO plantations in East Kalimantan.
Mr. Tanjung also serves as Chairman of the Indonesia Forum Foundation and Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation Indonesia. Mr. Tanjung is a member of the board of the Indonesian Committee for Humanitarian Programs, the Indonesian Red Cross, the Jakarta Art Foundation, and sits on the Board of Trustees of Universitas Airlangaa.
