ASEAN Business Club continues to provide support to regional partners through its extensive network of members. Recently, the president of the club, Tan Sri Munir Majid participated in the inaugural Horasis Asia Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand on 27-28 November 2016 as a co-chair along with a list of notable figures across the region. Acknowledging Asia’s potential as the growth engine of the future, the meeting, which aimed to present a systemic view of the drivers of Asia’s economic development across all sectors, successfully attracted and gathered 400 senior business leaders from around the world.

The speakers during the meeting include, Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, Amit Mitra, Minister for Finance, Commerce & Industries for West Bengal, India, and Yukio Hatoyama, the Former Prime Minister of Japan, who proposed his vision for a pan-Asian leadership agenda that urges for the restoration of morals and the increase in social welfare, which is in accordance of H.M Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s approach.

In a plenary session themed “Building within the ASEAN Economic Community”, Tan Sri Munir Majid spoke along with other panellists including Lito Camacho, Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse, Singapore, Oh Jong Nam, Co-Chairman of Saemangeum Development Committee, Korea and Surin Pitsuwan, Former Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Thailand. The panel discussed about the economic and geopolitical priorities and strategies required to bring about regional economic integration in Asia, which recently achieved a major milestone through the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community.

Delegates present at the meeting reflected on the current state of the regional and global economy, as they recognized the capacity available for growth and the thought leadership required to materialize it. Horasis, which has an unrivalled history of partnership with corporations from emerging markets, managed to create a powerful platform for intensive discourse on cooperation between emerging and developed markets while incorporating a diversity of views and experience during the meeting.
